The Federal Police captured this Sunday, 17th, in Campo Grande (MS), Selmo Machado da Silva, known as “FI”, responsible for the hacker attack, which occurred in 2021, on the Federal Regional Court system of the 3rd Region (TRF3) , based in São Paulo.
The PF investigations, carried out in Operation Escalada Cibernética, resulted in the conviction of the main suspect for the hacker attack, to a sentence of 9 years in prison, for committing the crimes of hacking a computer device (art. 154-A of the Penal Code) and falsification of public documents (art. 297 of the Penal Code). The sentence was issued by the 7th Federal Criminal Court of São Paulo, in December 2021. The convict, however, has remained at large since May 2021, the date on which the PF operation began.
Selmo “FI” was responsible for promoting a cyber attack on the PJe system of the Federal Regional Court of the 3rd Region, with the purpose of altering electronic signature documents of public agents to obtain personal advantages. The hacker, after invading the electronic judicial process system, falsified opinions from the Federal Public Ministry in six cases being processed at the TRF-3, in which he himself was the defendant, altering the prosecutors’ statements with the suggestion of acquittal instead of conviction originally proposed.
The investigation began after two Federal Court magistrates in São Paulo detected changes to documents, with fraudulent use of their digital signatures. The hacker forged electronic signatures of judges, court officials and members of the Federal Public Ministry and altered documents in at least eight cases – two civil and six criminal. The objectives, in addition to “self-absolution”, would be the release and appropriation of amounts pending in legal actions to accounts controlled by the criminal himself.
The hacker, internationally wanted, with his name included in Interpol’s red notice, was hiding in a residential property in the Conjunto Aero Rancho neighborhood, in the city of Campo Grande. This Sunday, at least 20 federal police officers from the PF superintendencies in São Paulo, where the investigation took place, and Mato Grosso do Sul, where the fugitive was captured, participated in the action this Sunday.
