This Thursday morning (21), teams from the 1st Police Station (1st DP) carried out an operation to execute seven search warrants at addresses related to a group that was involved in carrying out dozens of scams in the modality known as “fake rent”.

Investigations conducted by the police unit revealed that this group of individuals used rental advertisements found on the internet as targets. After identifying that access to the advertised properties was easier for visiting, they cloned the ads and began to act as if they were the legitimate owners of the properties.

The modus operandi resulted in the victims being deceived, generally people looking to rent properties, who ended up depositing advances to rent the properties in accounts indicated by the scammers. These accounts were often linked to “oranges” recruited by criminals.

During the searches carried out, several cell phones and falsified documents were seized. These seizures will play a crucial role in investigations related to the gang, in particular in identifying other crimes perpetrated by the group and in identifying any associates involved in the criminal scheme.
