Pastor Péricles Cardoso de Melo, from the Assembly of God in João Pessoa, was indicted and had a request for preventive detention issued by the police, with support from the Public Ministry of Paraíba.

Investigations indicate that the pastor had harmed more than 30 faithful, accumulating a debt that exceeds the R$2 million mark with these people. The case occurred within the Mangabeira 1 congregation, where he held the position of director.

According to police authorities, Péricles left the city the day before the scheduled meeting to clarify the matter with the church management. The pastor was indicted for embezzlement and embezzlement, and was also removed from his duties at the Assembly of God in July.

The complaint arose in June when one of the faithful sought out the board of directors of the Assembly of God in Paraíba, claiming to be in debt of R$90,000 due to a loan granted to the pastor.

The church had scheduled a meeting for July 14th, at which Pericles was to explain what was happening. However, according to the delegate’s report, “the day before, he disappeared from João Pessoa.”

The request for the pastor’s preventive detention was requested by the police and received a favorable opinion from the Public Ministry. Now, the case will be evaluated by the 2nd Regional Criminal Court of Mangabeira.
