Maud Le Fort will not walk the catwalks at Paris Fashion Week, which begins this Monday (25), as she prioritized her health over her career as a model.

Le Fort, who is now 30 years old, arrived in Paris at 18 with the dream of modeling for big fashion brands.

She was immediately classified as a “commercial model”, when she is not considered thin enough for high-end fashion shows.

“I had a 36.6 cm waist, 85 cm bust, in other words, I had curves. In Paris they told me that I would only do lingerie and maybe very commercial things, but not a lot of fashion,” she tells AFP.

But the model refused to give up on her dream and dedicated herself to losing even more weight, but without exercising, as muscles are also not well seen on the catwalks.

“They weighed me almost every day. And the more weight I lost, the more compliments I received”, he recalls.

Weighing 49 kilos and 1.81 m tall, Le Fort modeled for Armani, Balmain, Jean Paul Gaultier and Yohji Yamamoto. Until he realized that what he was doing wasn’t normal.

“One day I said ‘enough’. I’m going to eat and exercise,” he said.

At 30, she now takes theater classes and therapy, to regain confidence in herself and leave years of depression and eating disorders behind.

“I still don’t fully accept my body as it is. I don’t have a completely healthy relationship with food,” she added.

Currently, Le Fort does photoshoots with much less pressure. But he is also uncomfortable seeing his sento photos retouched, as he believes this creates unrealistic expectations for young women.

“This is very shocking and sad,” he highlighted.

Fainting

Brazilian model Tatiana (fictitious name to protect her identity) was fired from her agency after five years when she gained a few kilos due to stress and a hormone treatment she was taking.

“They fired me without warning. Losing fashion was very difficult,” said she, who had worked as a model since she was a teenager.

Tatiana recalls that she has seen “many skinny girls fainting during the tests, they could barely walk in high heels.”

Currently 37 years old, she works as a fitting model, when designers want to try out their designs on women in the real world, rather than the fantasy world of the catwalks.

Sophie (not her real name) is a 22-year-old medical student living in Paris. She also works as a commercial model and dreams of walking on major catwalks, but knows she has a long-term career and is not willing to sacrifice her health.

“Fashion is not an environment I would recommend to someone who is psychologically fragile,” he confesses.

“If that was all I did for a living, I would be constantly worried,” she said, admitting that today she is satisfied if she doesn’t get to walk the catwalk.
