The Ministry of Education notified Unisa (Santo Amaro University) this Monday (18) so that the institution can provide clarifications about a video in which students from the institution appear running naked and with their hands on their penises. The university has 15 days to respond to the MEC.

The episode would have happened in April this year, in São Carlos (216 km from the capital of São Paulo), and the video went viral this weekend.

The students were watching the university’s women’s team play against Centro Universitário São Camilo and as part of the celebration they took off their clothes. In another video, you can see them running around the court. On social media, there are comments that the students were carrying out a “collective masturbation”.

In addition to the information regarding the episode, the MEC asked Unisa what punishments are provided for in its regulations, if the facts are confirmed.

The SSP (Public Security Secretariat) stated that, as soon as it became aware of the facts, it began investigating the episode. The organization explains that, according to information collected so far, students from the men’s futsal team invaded the court and began parading naked right after the team they supported won a women’s volleyball match against another institution.

“In the videos circulating on the internet, it is possible to see the group show their genitals and, subsequently, perform obscene acts facing the court”, says the ministry, which explains that the DIG (General Investigations Department) of São Carlos has already started investigations to fully clarify the facts.

In addition to the incident report, the department states that the Civil Police will send requests to the universities involved and to the Sports Department of the Municipality of São Carlos.

Unisa athletics stated, in a statement posted on social media, that the images are not contemporary and that they do not represent “athletic principles and values”.

The report attempted to contact Unisa, but did not receive a response until the publication of this report.

The São Camilo University Center claims that the episode took place at a sporting event called Calomed.

“The Unisa students, emerging victorious, according to reports collected, celebrated by running naked around the court. At that time, no observations were recorded by our students regarding sexual harassment”, declared the university, which stated that it supported all students and which does not condone any acts that may violate modesty and good customs.

After the repercussion of the episode, the Ministry of Women lamented the episode on X (formerly Twitter). The ministry reported that breaking with centuries of a misogynistic culture is a constant task that requires a careful look at all types of gender-based violence.

“Attitudes such as those of medical students at Unisa can never be normalized – they must be combated with the rigor of the law”, said the ministry. “We will continue working to ensure that universities are safe spaces, free from violence.”

UNE (National Union of Students) said that the scenes involving Unisa medical students at university games are absurd.

“These students need to be held accountable for the crimes committed in unacceptable conduct during a women’s volleyball game,” the organization said.
