President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said, in a conversation with the President of the United States, Joe Biden, that democracy “is increasingly in danger”. He also stated that work is very precarious.

“Democracy is increasingly in danger because the denial of politics has caused extremist sectors to try to occupy a space due to the denial of politics throughout the world”, declared the Brazilian.

The conversation between Lula and Biden is still ongoing. The first part of the dialogue was open to the press and broadcast. Both are in New York, where they participated in the UN General Assembly. The two presidents are launching an initiative to promote what Brazilians have called “decent work”.

Biden thanked Lula for the conversation and said that working for a better world includes promoting workers’ rights. The Brazilian declared that he had never seen an American president speak so highly of workers.

Lula said that a concrete proposal is needed to improve labor relations, and that the conversation with Biden is an “exemplary moment”.

The PT member stated that workers work more and more and earn less. According to Lula, it is important to take this discussion to the G20. Brazil will preside over the activities of this forum next year. He also mentioned Brics.

Lula said that there is the prospect of “exceptional” cooperation with the United States, and that the meeting with Biden is the rebirth of “a new era” between the two countries.
