Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) finally met with the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, in New York, this Wednesday (20) after disagreements and mutual criticism.

“Today I met, in New York, with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski. We talked about the importance of paths to building peace and always maintaining open dialogue between our countries”, Lula published on his official account on X (formerly Twitter ).

The two leaders spoke on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The meeting comes after a rumored disagreement between the leaders during the G7 summit in Hiroshima, in May, an event in which both participated as guests.

The Brazilian government stated that it had offered Zelenski three appointments at the time, and that he “simply did not show up”. Planalto sources minimized the importance of Lula not having met with Zelenski at the time.

Later, in an interview in Kiev with Folha de S.Paulo and other Latin American press outlets, the Ukrainian president gave a different version, saying that his team was not to blame for the episode.

The post Lula says he spoke with Zelenski about peace and dialogue appeared first in Jornal de Brasília.
