One of the biggest music awards in the world, the Latin Grammys announced, this Tuesday (19/9), the 2023 nominees. Among those selected by the Latin Recording Academy is the rapper Kayode, with the music video for “Podcast/Pedra da Memory”. The audiovisual was nominated in the Best Short Version Music Video category.

“It is extremely gratifying to obtain this level of recognition, precisely because we do not have meteoric numbers. We know that we are on the list, for all our artistic quality and delivery. Much more than the impact on our career, the personal impact is what determines. Being on the The biggest award in Latin music only strengthens the feeling of doing something with purpose”, celebrates Kayode.

Directed by Gabriel Avelar and Beto Galloni, and musical production by Paiva Prod and DropAllien, the film brings a shock of reality when reflecting on police repression, including real accounts from young black people who experienced this situation. The work also includes references to similar cases that shocked the country, such as that of Genivaldo de Jesus Santos, who was killed in an improvised gas chamber in a vehicle in Sergipe, in 2022.

Created by Yalla Recordings – the only independent record label nominated for the award – the project was developed with its own team and investment. “We seek to go against the market, to do something conceptual. This indication shows that art has space, it is what moves music to evolve. The independent market is being seen worldwide and we need to innovate, we cannot be stuck in the sameness”, he reflects the CEO of Yalla, André Drum.

This is not Kayode’s first nomination. The film is part of the album “Flow da Pele”, released in 2022, which made the rapper reach new heights in his career. Last year, he was winner of the Music Video Festival (MVF), second place in the Rap Brasil Award and nominated for the Ciclope Latino and Berlin Commercial awards, two of the biggest audiovisual awards in the world.

Kayode competes with Brazilians Luthuly and Nave, with the video for “Fixação”; the Argentines Nathy Peluso, with “Estas Buenísimo” and Wos with “Descartable”; in addition to Sen Serra with “No Quiero Ser Un Cantante”. The result will be announced on November 16th, in Seville, Spain.
