Transsexual deputy Duda Salabert (PDT-MG) responded to the former head of the Institutional Security Office (GSI), General Augusto Heleno, after being called “sir” in the session that hears the military in the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) of the January 8th this Tuesday, 26. When threatening to sue her, Heleno used the masculine gender to refer to the parliamentarian, who corrected: “It’s ma’am”.

Salabert questioned Heleno’s role in a Brazilian peace mission in Haiti in 2004, in which he allegedly coordinated an operation that resulted in the deaths of dozens of children. The general denied the accusations and said, addressing her as male, that he would sue the deputy.

“This statement is a lie. I want to protect Your Excellency. If I want, I will go to court and sue you, and put you in jail”, said Heleno. The PDT parliamentarian responded to the former head of the GSI: “she IS the lady, and she’s not coming to threaten me.”

Then, Salabert said that Heleno should be arrested after the hearing in which he participates as a witness. “If there is justice in Brazil, and if there is indeed justice in Brazil, you will be arrested at the end of this CPI,” he said.

Deputy Abílio Brunini (PL-MT) interrupted her saying that the president of CPMI, Arthur Maia (União-BA), let the parliamentarian “talk nonsense and accuse crimes”. Maia then ordered the parliamentarian to leave and suspended the meeting.

Upon returning from the session, Salabert said that Heleno apologized during the break. “Just explaining and making it public, the general, when I entered the room, apologized for treating me as masculine. Just saying that my position, you (Augusto Heleno) can ask me when I leave and I will say that it is not that issue the most relevant, because it is personal. What we are discussing here is something much bigger”, said the deputy.
