In 2023, 41 thousand doses of vaccines were administered in 230 public schools and daycare centers alone, according to the Department of Health. In partnership with the Department of Education, Health, the action is a collective effort to expand vaccination coverage in the Federal District.

The 41,000th dose was applied this Thursday (21), during an action carried out at Escola Classe (EC) 33, in Setor O of Ceilândia. Carried out by the team at the Basic Health Unit (UBS) 7 in Ceilândia, the action resulted in the application of more than 300 doses for children between 4 and 12 years old. Vaccines against Covid-19 and flu (influenza) were administered, in addition to those provided for these age groups, protecting against diseases such as meningitis, yellow fever, hepatitis and measles, among others.

According to the vice-director of EC 33 in Ceilândia, Paula Adriana Freitas, families and students approved the initiative. “Some children talk about the relevance of this. They understand that they are participating in something very important,” she says.

Salesperson Tainara Ferreira, mother of Isaque Gabriel, aged 4, praised the fact that immunization takes place within the school. “He was three vaccines late and it was easier to do it right here,” she says. All children attended had to bring authorization from their parents or guardians from home and had their vaccination cards up to date.

Vaccination in schools went beyond children. Responsible for preparing students’ lunches, Irenece Maria de Jesus argues that taking care of one’s own health is also a way of protecting students. “It is our duty as citizens. But there’s not always time to get the vaccine,” she says. She received the covid-19 booster with the bivalent.

For nurse Luzimar dos Santos, an SES-DF employee, working in the school environment is an achievement, as it significantly increases the number of people vaccinated in a single day. “It is a satisfaction, because the objective of Primary Health Care is the protection and prevention of diseases”, she says.
