The hat that Michael Jackson wore during his first “moonwalk”, famous dance step, was sold this Tuesday (26) for 77,640 euros (R$ 407,703), during an auction in Paris in the presence of fans and onlookers, announced the Hotel Drouot.
This Fedora piece, made of wool and lined with silk, was valued between 60,000 and 100,000 euros (approximately between R$315,000 and R$525,000).
The object was the star of the auction organized by the Lemon Auction auction house, which brought together 200 items from the world of rock.
The hat was collected by an attendant at Michael Jackson’s concert, Adam Kelly, on March 25, 1983. He “thought the singer’s team would come and get it, which didn’t happen,” the general director of the Artpèges gallery, Arthur Perault, who organized the sale.
In fact, Michael Jackson didn’t dance his famous routine to the song “Billie Jean” with that hat: he threw it to the side of the stage at the beginning of the show.
Adam Kelly kept the piece for several years before selling it to an American collector. The hat later reappeared in a collection in Europe.
Another object auctioned was the guitar of bluesman T-Bone Walker (1910-1975), a great influence on BB King, Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton.
The instrument, produced in 1949 and with just 22 copies, was sold for 129,400 euros (R$679,505).
The rock world remains a magnet for wealthy fans at auction.
Recently, in London, a series of auctions of various items that belonged to Freddie Mercury exceeded US$50 million (R$248 million) – a record for a collection of this type, according to auction house Sotheby’s.
At this auction, the piano with which the artist composed almost all of his songs, including “Bohemian Rhapsody”, was sold for 2 million euros (R$ 10.5 million).
