In the original version of “Renascer”, produced in 1993 by Globo, author Benedito Ruy Barbosa weighed in on criticism of the latifundiary regime in the culture of cocoa farming, in the interior of Bahia, where the story takes place.
In the new version, Bruno Luperi, Benedito’s grandson, will reduce the tone and, whenever possible, praise current agribusiness.
In the original, the social and political agendas were materialized through the conversations and sermons of Father Lívio, delivered by Jackson Costa, who lived on pilgrimages through the region of the soap opera.

Among the topics he spoke about were precarious health, embezzlement in education, tax evasion and political corruption.
The priest also spoke about poverty and land concentration. Yes, there will be political criticism, now focused on poverty (as a whole) and the fact that many Brazilians continue to have nothing to eat.
But the landownership discussion, which was discussed especially with José Inocêncio, played by Marcos Palmeira in the new version and originally played by Antônio Fagundes, will lose strength.

As happened with “Pantanal” (2022), political themes and more delicate discussions will lose space in the name of conveying a better image of agribusiness and farmers. Companies that invest in this area are among the biggest sponsors of Brazilian television today.
Another point is that Globo wants to have a language closer to the popular. Delving into so many political criticisms is not something considered an audience grabber.
The focus will be on the most classic soap opera plots, and the relationship of the main trio, composed of José Inocêncio, João Pedro (Juan Paiva) and Mariana (Theresa Fonseca).
The adaptation of the soap opera is already well advanced, and recordings will begin in October. The new version of the story will be recorded in Ilhéus, in the interior of Bahia, and premieres in January 2024, replacing “Terra e Paixão” at 9pm.
