The CPMI rapporteur of the 8th of January, senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), said that the expectation is to approve today (26) new requirements related to a meeting in November 2022, in which the then president Jair Bolsonaro would have discussed the possibility of a coup with commanders of the Armed Forces. The idea is to listen to the then Navy commanders, Admiral Almir Garnier; of the Army, General Freire Gomes; and from the Air Force, Brigadier Baptista Júnior.
“We have to listen to the commanders of the Armed Forces. They played a central role in this debate. We are entering a final stretch. The information arriving is absolutely serious. It is vital that we can listen to the three commanders in this final stretch”, said the rapporteur after the meeting of the government base.
The alleged meeting was reported by Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp, in a plea bargain. To the Federal Police, Cid said that Admiral Almir Garnier had expressed support for a coup plan.
The senator also defended the approval of requests for breaches of confidentiality of those suspected of financing the attack on the Three Powers.
The press conference took place a few hours after minister Cristiano Zanin, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), decided that the former minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI) Augusto Heleno must attend the CPMI on January 8, but will not be obliged to answer the questions. The meeting to hear the former minister is scheduled for this Tuesday (26), at 9 am.
With more and more clarifications, the expectation is that the final CPMI report will be delivered by October 17th.
