Pastor Osório José Lopes Júnior, who was being sought by the Civil Police of the Federal District (PCDF), due to his involvement in a financial scam that affected more than 50 thousand victims, was finally arrested in the south of Tocantins. According to information from the local Civil Police, his capture took place in the city of Sucupira, on Thursday afternoon (21).

At around 5:15 pm, Osório José was found on a ranch in the rural area and taken to the Gurupi Police Station to give his statement. The pastor’s defense declared that he has not yet had access to the contents of the case files.

After completing the procedures at the police station, the pastor was transferred to the Gurupi Regional Penal Unit, where he will be available to the Federal District Court. The DF Civil Police has already been notified about the arrest and should request the suspect’s transfer soon.

In addition to Osório, Maria Aparecida Gomes Barbosa, a 63-year-old missionary pastor, was also arrested on the same date. She is suspected of involvement in the same scheme and was located in the city of Jaraguá do Sul, in Santa Catarina, at her daughter’s residence.

The operation began on Wednesday morning (20), and the victims, numbering thousands, are distributed across Brazil and even in other countries. According to the Civil Police, the criminal group handled the amount of R$156 million over five years, in addition to creating around 40 fictitious companies and operating more than 800 suspicious bank accounts.
