The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, said that the National Fair and Inclusive Energy Transition Plan, presented on Sunday, 17th, at an event at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN), in New York, marks a gradual change in energy sources in the country. “We understand the transition as exactly a transition, and not as a change. In fact, no one can specify how soon we will, fortunately, be able to free ourselves from fossil energy sources”, said the minister, in interview with GloboNews, on Monday, 18.
According to Silveira, countries need to approach the energy transition according to their priorities. “(Biofuels) are, without a doubt, our great vocation for energy transition in the area of cleaning the transport and mobility matrix, but we still need these mineral potentials”, she stated.
The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and other members of the Brazilian delegation, such as Silveira and the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, are in New York for the 78th UN General Assembly and Climate Week.
