Corinthians and Grêmio played the game with the most goals in the 2023 Brasileirão and drew 4-4 in a delayed match from the 15th round played at the Neo Química Arena, this Monday. With two comebacks and a duel full of opportunities for both sides, the teams alternated ups and downs during the 90 minutes and ended up adding a point in the capital of São Paulo.

With equality, both teams are far from their goals in the competition. Corinthians reaches 26 points and sees the relegation zone a little closer. Grêmio reached 40, remains within the G-4, but misses the chance to touch Palmeiras and Batafogo.

“I know they say that Corinthians is the team where everything is suffered, but we have to improve. We can’t concede so many goals. Today was a game that we needed to win. We have to improve and we have a lot to improve. It can’t happen, We have to evolve as soon as possible. It was a crazy game, but we have to improve”, commented Lucas Veríssimo as he left the field.

Even with the starting lineup almost complete, Corinthians did not find themselves on the Neo Química Arena pitch in the first half. Without being able to get Renato Augusto into the game, the São Paulo team barely maintained possession of the ball and, early on, Grêmio took control and managed to score.

In the 20th minute, Nathan played with Cristaldo, invaded the area from the right and hit a low cross to beat Cássio and open the scoring in São Paulo. Corinthians seemed to sense the goal and the team from Rio Grande do Sul didn’t miss the chance to double the lead. At 28, Reinaldo crossed from the left and Cristaldo almost didn’t need to jump to deflect and score the second.

Behind the scoreboard, Corinthians launched an attack. With the fans pushing the team into the stands, the team knew how to find spaces and turned the game around in seven minutes. First, in the 44th minute, Renato Augusto was brought down by Villasanti in the area and Fábio Santos took advantage of the charge to leave the score at 2-1.

In the 49th minute, Rojas took a corner kick in the Rio Grande do Sul area, Lucas Veríssimo went up alone, deflected it and left everything the same in the capital of São Paulo. With the fans celebrating the draw, the Luxembourg team managed to turn things around. At 51, Maycon got up in the area, Yuri Alberto appeared free inside the small area to head the ball, making it 3-2 and increasing the celebration even further.

The second stage started like the first. Having more of the ball, Grêmio bet on exchanging passes, managed to involve the São Paulo defense and scored again. After five minutes, Galdindo received it from JP Galvão on the right, brought it to the middle, passed through two and finished strong to leave everything equal. Then, in the 12th minute, Suárez crossed the line with Villasanti, entered the area on the right and finished with a pointer to turn the match for the Gauchos to 4-3.

Once again behind the scoreboard, Corinthians tried to change the pace of the match. With Giuliano and Wesley leaving the bench, the São Paulo team launched an attack and left everything the same again. At 21, the pair that entered the match made the move on the left, the midfielder received the ball in the area and finished placed to make it 4-4.

In the final stretch, both teams seemed to feel the strong pace most of the time. Despite the chances for more goals appearing, Corinthians and Grêmio lacked efficiency and were no longer able to find the net.
