The Construction Confidence Index (ICST) rose 2.2 points in September, to 98.1 points, the highest level since October 2022 (100.9 points). In quarterly moving averages, ICST increased 1.4 points. The information was released this Tuesday, 26th, by Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV).

Despite the progress at the margin, the coordinator of Construction Projects at Ibre/FGV, Ana Maria Castelo, highlighted, in a note, that growth is not occurring uniformly within the sector. “In September, it was companies in the real estate market that were less confident in relation to the current business situation and in the coming months. The lack of qualified labor and access to credit have hampered the business scenario, despite a perception more positive in relation to future demand”, he wrote.

For Ana Maria Castelo, the setback in building confidence was mitigated by the improvement in the business environment of specialized services and infrastructure companies. “The latter have once again stood out as the most confident within the sector”, she pointed out.

At the opening of the month, the Current Situation Index (ISA-CST) rose 1.9 points, to 96.5 points, the highest level since December 2022. The Expectations Index grew 2.4 points, to 99.8 points, the highest level since October last year.

In expectations, there was an increase in the indicator that measures expected demand for the next three months, from 4.5 points, to 102.5 points. There was also an advance in the business trend for the next six months, which increased 0.4 points, reaching 97.1 points.

The Construction Capacity Utilization Level (Nuci) rose 0.4 percentage points, to 79.4%. The Nuci for Labor increased 0.6 pp to 80.7%, while the Nuci for Machinery and equipment fell 1.3 pp, to 73.0%.
