A pair of twins, just 1 month old, were found alone inside a house in Setor Jardim Novo Mundo, in Goiânia. According to the Child Protection Council, the babies’ mother had an outburst and left them at home.
The babies were abandoned last Friday (15). According to the Guardianship Council, the neighbors of the residence where the brothers were found heard the cries and called the Military Police (PM). The military found the couple alone and called the Guardianship Council to participate in the incident.
After the counselors arrived, the babies were taken to a shelter, where they stayed until the father was located. After being found, the father of the twins reported that the babies’ mother had a history of psychological problems and that this was not the first time the couple had been abandoned.
The counselor responsible for rescuing the babies, Lucimar Martins, said she believes the mother is suffering from postpartum depression, as several bottles of medicine were found at the scene.
The babies were handed over to their father, who said he had already asked the court for permanent custody of them both. A police report on the woman’s disappearance was opened.
