The evening in the Kremlin became one of the main events within the framework of the events dedicated to the centenary of the formation of the state governing body in the field of physical culture and sports in 1923. The National Sports Prize was created in 2010 by decree of the Government of the Russian Federation in order to stimulate the professional activities of athletes, coaches and specialists in the field of physical culture and sports.

Prizes were awarded in 18 different categories and each winner received a monetary reward of one million rubles. Many famous athletes gathered in the hall: Olympic champions, world and European champions of different generations.

The victory of swimmer Evgenia Chikunova in the Athlete of the Year nomination is natural. In April of this year she set a new, still valid, world record in the 200-meter breaststroke. A few days ago, Evgenia had a brilliant performance at the Russian Short Course Swimming Championships (in a 25 meter pool) in St. Petersburg, where she won four major prizes.

The Muslim Gadzhimagomedov, who competes in the first heavyweight category (category up to 91 kg), climbed to the top step of the podium in 2023 at the World Championships held in the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, repeating a similar success four years ago. Also in the collection of a native of Dagestan there is “silver” from the Tokyo Olympics.

Distinguished Russian rhythmic gymnastics coach Vera Shtelbaums was recognized as “Coach of the Year.” It should be noted that among her students is the only two-time Olympic champion in history in individual competition, Evgenia Kanaeva, the silver medalist of the Summer Games and three-time world champion Irina Chashchina, as well as many other stars of the rhythmic music. gymnastics who continue their active career and delight the public with their grace and skill.

Among the most important nominations for the National Sports Award, one stands out as honorable as “Epoca en el deporte”. Here the award was presented to the president of the Russian Tennis Federation, Shamil Tarpishchev. He gained fame primarily as captain (coach) of the men’s national team in the Davis Cup, where he led the players in 101 matches: this is an absolute record. Tarpishchev was also captain of the women’s team and did a great job in popularizing and developing tennis in our country.
