Arrascaeta goes to the final of the Copa do Brasil after a race against time to recover from an injury to his left thigh. This situation, however, is far from new in his career.

In the second half of 2022, for example, he suffered from inconvenient pubalgia that threatened his participation in the Copa do Brasil and Libertadores finals. He had to be spared a few games to be on the field

“The exam showed that I have pubalgia, but I’ve had it for a long time, suffering a little. But we were playing important matches, Copa do Brasil, qualifying for the Libertadores and I said: ‘I don’t want to be left out of this game’ But the semifinals and finals were approaching, and what I want is to be on the field”, he said, in an interview with “ESPN”

In the Copa do Brasil final against Corinthians, Arrascaeta scored a goal that was disallowed for offside after a VAR check. He was substituted 32 minutes into the second half for Victor Hugo. The match ended in a 1-1 draw and Rubro-Negro won on penalties.

In the Libertadores decision against Athletico-PR, the Uruguayan was a starter, but did not play the match with the brilliance expected and, later, gave way to Everton Cebolinha.

After these appearances, his trip to the World Cup in Qatar was threatened, and Flamengo’s medical department even had to send a clinical report on the midfielder to the Uruguayan team’s doctors.

At the World Cup, however, Arrascaeta had his moment of brilliance in the Uruguayan victory against Ghana, a game in which he scored the two winning goals.

ASSISTANCE IN 2021 AND 2019

In the 2021 and 2019 Libertadores decisions, the midfielder also experienced moments of apprehension, but that did not stop him from being decisive.

In the case of 2021, he was diagnosed with his second muscle injury in October, after a game for the Uruguay national team. Arrascaeta returned to the pitch on the eve of the final against Palmeiras, in Montevideo, his home country.

In the 2-1 defeat to Alviverde, the midfielder provided an assist for Gabigol and was one of the best on the field even when sacrificing.

In 2019, the number 14 had a sprain in his left knee in the Libertadores semi-final, against Grêmio, and underwent arthroscopy, but returned in the return game. In the final against River Plate, he was the author of the pass for Gabigol’s first goal, which equalized the score in Lima, Peru.

OWNERSHIP

The Uruguayan had a muscle injury detected in his left thigh at the end of last month and the recovery period was four weeks.

Arrascaeta underwent treatments in three periods to be on the field today (24), including monitoring by a physiotherapist at home.

He returned to training with the squad this week and, even though he is not 100% fit, he is going to the game at Morumbi in search of the title.

There is even a good chance that Arrascaeta will start this Sunday afternoon, something celebrated by red and black fans.
