A man who had been arrested for involvement in the coup acts on January 8th in Brasília, and was later released under the condition of complying with precautionary measures, was arrested again this Friday afternoon (22nd), in Espírito Santo.

Marcos Soares Moreira had been released after being indicted for less serious crimes, having to comply with some conditions determined by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court). But he returned to posting on social media against the court.

Moreira responds to accusations of having been one of the inciters of the coup acts on January 8th. This group includes people who were arrested in the camp in front of the Army headquarters, in Brasília, hours after the invasions and depredations against the headquarters of the three Powers.

In a video, he said he will never bow down to the “criminals” who have the pen in their hand and quotes Alexandre de Moraes and Rosa Weber, president of the court. He also calls the ministers bums and challenges the Supreme Court to arrest him.

“For me it is indifferent whether I am here or there. But I will never bow down to you, bandits, who have the power of the pen in your hand, but you are bandits. Alexandre de Moraes, Rosa Weber, all of you there, are bandits, vagabonds “, said Moreira in one of the videos, which is full of insults against Moraes.

He was banned from using social media as one of the precautionary measures.

“Even though he was aware of this prohibition (on the use of social networks) and demonstrated total contempt for Justice, the accused published two videos on the social network TikTok, in which he attacked this court and uttered several insults to the honor of the ministers who are part of it. In one of the publications , calls on protesters to, on October 12, 2023, take to the streets ‘against this absurd agenda that this Court is putting forward to be voted on to release the murder and homicide of babies'”, wrote Moraes in the decision.

Among the precautionary measures imposed on Moreira, in addition to the issue of networks, was the obligation to appear weekly at the Execution Court; prohibition on leaving the country, with the provision of a passport; suspension of any firearm permit document; and prohibition of communicating with others involved.

The prison was replaced by precautionary measures in May.

“In this context, the news that the accused failed to comply with the precautionary measure imposed on him upon the granting of provisional release constitutes sufficient reason for the decree of arrest,” said Moraes.

The report did not locate Moreira’s defense.
