Biopics about music stars are always filled with a strong emotional appeal, especially when tragedy is part of the end. And when it is part of our musical history, as in “Elis” (2016) or “Cazuza – O Tempo Não Pára” (2004), then the rapprochement with the spectator goes much further. This is the focus of the new national feature film, “ Nosso Sonho ” which tells how the funk duo Claudinho and Buchecha, played by Lucas Penteado and Juan Paiva, emerged, narrating their musical trajectory and especially the friendship that took the duo to homes across the country.

The biopic is narrated from the point of view of Buchecha (Juan Paiva) and shows how the friendship between the two – which began in childhood – became a powerful fuel for overcoming challenges and various achievements of the duo, including the status as the greatest national funk melody phenomena of all time. Starting from a community in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, the duo conquered Brazil through rhythm, poetry and engaging music. In the film, we also know the story and inspirations behind the biggest hits of the singers’ careers, who remained together until 2002, when Claudinho died in a car accident.

The main fuel of the film is found right at the beginning, it is the strength of their friendship and this was a choice made by director Eduardo Albergaria himself, who guides the plot with a typical checklist already known in the genre.

Because the focus of the production is these intimate experiences of the duo, especially Buchecha’s family and how they were building this dream, which is very positive for the plot, as it shows a reality that is part of many Brazilians, taking the bus to go for work, being close to friends watching football, the issue of living in an unsafe community, in short, there are many points represented with excellence.

However, something missing from the film is undoubtedly this issue of the decriminalization of funk that exists to this day, Claudinho and Buchecha were on television programs, toured several countries, were on the radio and the film does not show this cultural immensity. that they achieved, they managed to go far beyond the universe of funk at dances in Rio de Janeiro.

Anyone who was present in the 1990s and early 2000s will certainly remember many of the duo’s hits, such as ” Nosso Sonho “, which gives the title to the film, ” Conquista “, ” Só Love “, ” Quero te Chega ” and ” Fico Like this without You”, which delivers one of the most beautiful scenes in the plot.

The choice of actors to play the duo was right, Lucas Penteado as Claudinho, delivers a lightness, with comical breath, but with a lot of expression and wisdom, he tells the story like this dreamer who doesn’t give up on convincing his best friend to embark on this adventure to walk your path without fear. Juan Paiva narrates the entire plot, and the film is seen through Buchecha’s eyes, he has many emotional scenes of disbelieving in his own potential and many family issues, especially with his father, so his performance is very moving at some points.

The film’s direction prepares the viewer for something that everyone already knows, which is Claudinho’s accident in 2002, with a delicate montage that makes clear this strength between them, usually stories about bands, singers, there is always something like drugs or fights and between them two had none of that, two young people present in their families who wanted the best for everyone without stopping dreaming.

Conclusion

“Our Dream” has a very positive result in the midst of so many musical biopics, Juan Paiva and Lucas Penteado put on a show of acting, in fact all the songs on the film’s soundtrack they sang themselves, it will represent the lives of Brazilians in many ways, however It would be interesting to focus on the cultural issue and all the prejudice that funk suffers as a genre of national music.
