The growth in the number of cases means that care must be increased by the Government of the Federal District (GDF), despite the capital not having recorded an increase in hospitalizations and not having the predominance of the new Éris subvariant, which has only a single confirmed case in city.
The increase in the period was awaited by the Health Department of the Federal District (SES-DF), as well as by the Ministry of Health. Therefore, the government has expanded the forms of access to vaccination for city residents, with doses available in basic units (UBSs) and in so-called extramural actions, in schools and public places. Immunization is considered one of the main weapons to prevent the high rate of transmission and serious cases of the disease, which can result in hospitalizations and deaths.
“With this increase in the number of Covid-19 cases here in the Federal District, it is important to tell the population that the problem has not yet been fully resolved and to tell those people who have not completed the vaccination cycle about the importance of seeking one of our clinics. health to get vaccinated”, highlights the Undersecretary of Health Surveillance at SES-DF, Valero Martins.
Until the publication of the latest DF Immunization Information, on September 18, the federal capital had only 22.9% of the population over 18 years of age vaccinated with the bivalent booster, an immunization that guarantees protection against the original strain and variants. from Ômicron. The number is much lower compared to the coverage percentages of the first dose, 82%, and the second dose, 78.8%, in addition to the booster doses, being 51.4% for the first and 43.1% for the second.
“We credit this low number of people vaccinated with bivalent to the devaluation that the vaccine has received in recent years, in addition to the population’s lower guard as the disease cools down. But the secretariat has been working to go after these people with actions to facilitate access to the vaccine”, reveals the coordinator of Primary Health Care at SES-DF, Fabiana Fonseca.
In addition to the UBSs, immunizers against Covid-19 and also against other diseases are being offered at events in public places, shopping malls, public bodies, fairs, the Brasília Zoo and at Carro da Vacina, a project created in January 2022 that covers several remote locations and neighborhoods to take the vaccine to citizens, including on weekends. Vaccination locations can be checked daily on the Department of Health website.
“Vaccinating children has also been a concern. We still have many who have not completed the vaccination cycle against Covid-19. It is important that this population is also vaccinated”, highlights Fabiana.
