The government leader in Congress, senator Randolfe Rodrigues (no party-AP), said this Wednesday, 20, that the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples and the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (Apib) are negotiating the presentation of an alternative text for the bill on the time frame for the demarcation of indigenous lands.

According to Randolfe, coordination has been carried out by the government with senator Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE) and the objective is to present a text next week.

“Apib and the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples are in debate, especially with Senator Alessandro, to present a substitute. And we will try to bring this substitute to be debated next week at the CCJ Constitution and Justice Commission. I don’t think It’s a good idea for us to confront a declaration of unconstitutionality by the STF with a bill, which will blatantly be unconstitutional”, said Randolfe.

The Senate Constitution and Justice Committee received this Wednesday, 20th, the report from senator Marcos Rogério (PL-RO) on the time frame. The board scheduled the vote on the text for next Wednesday, 27th.

Government members tried to schedule a public hearing on the matter, but were defeated by the opposition. There were 15 votes against holding the debate at the CCJ and only eight votes in favor.
