The privatization of the Plano Piloto Bus Station is an old matter in the DF Legislative Chamber. However, this Tuesday (19), the discussion took another turn and advanced in the House. The justification for the proposal, authored by the Executive, is that the concession is necessary for the implementation of efficient management for the operation of the terminal, execution and maintenance of the Bus Station works.

Parliamentarians who are members of the Commission for Sustainable Economic Development, Science, Technology, Environment and Tourism (CDESCTMAT) considered bill No. 2260/2021 and the text was approved with three votes in favor. Reported by deputy Daniel Donizet (PL), the draft states that the concessionary company will be responsible for renovating, expanding, managing, operating and operating the Plano Piloto bus station and the Galeria dos Estados de Brasília. Users of public transport and bus stations will also be assured of security regarding the stability of the civil structure and adequate service provision.

As Doctor Jane (MDB) pointed out, the commission included in its report that current traders, that is, permit holders, will have preference to choose whether they will remain operating at the bus station under the new management model. “There are traders there who have been there since the beginning of Brasília. For us, it is important to recognize that they have this preference in the right to choose”, highlighted the district.

It is worth noting that Governor Ibaneis Rocha’s (MDB) proposal has already gone through a public hearing in August, when it brought together representatives of traders, government and legislature and civil society organizations. At the time, the majority of those present were against the project, including the president of the Consumer Protection Commission (CDC), Chico Vigilante (PT), who proposed the meeting. If the Bus Station had been privatized, many people passing by would only be able to smell the pastry and not be able to pay. And this already happens at the Interstate Bus Station and at Brasília Airport”, highlighted the deputy.

For the administrator of the Plano Piloto Bus Station, Josué Martins, however, there were improvements that were made in the space in recent years. “I understand all the concern. This is not a persecution. It is a PPP and the government is open to dialogue and improve the work, because work is a commitment from Governor Ibaneis,” he stated.

In July, the project received approval from the Federal District Court of Auditors. (TCDF). In this way, the government continues with the concession process, which, according to the undersecretary of partnerships and concessions, will last 20 years.

More than 650 thousand people pass through the bus station every day.
