Globo vetoed the participation of Lima Duarte, 93, in Record’s programming this week. The production of Balanço Geral SP, presented by Reinaldo Gottino, invited the actor to be honored for 73 years of Brazilian television. Duarte was remembered for being the only living artist among those who were present at the ceremonies for the arrival of TV in Brazil, in September 1950.

The inauguration of Brazilian TV occurred with the opening of the pioneer TV Tupi (1950-1980). At the time, Lima Duarte was already working on radio and, on television, she acted in the first national soap opera, the historic “Sua Vida me Pertence” (1951).

The idea of Balanço Geral was to relive that moment and show how important Lima Duarte was for TV as a whole. Globo, however, vetoed his participation because he had a fixed contract.

What draws attention is that the channel changed an understanding it recently had with Record itself. Last July, the company released Ana Maria Braga to be honored in Domingo Espetacular, an electronic magazine shown on Sunday nights and led by Carolina Ferraz and Sergio Aguiar. Therefore, it was expected that there would be a release for Lima Duarte now.

He is one of the few actors who has a so-called “lifetime contract” with Globo. These are agreements renewed every three years, automatically, and given to historical figures in the company’s history. This is the case, for example, of Cid Moreira and Sérgio Chapelin, former anchors at Jornal Nacional.

Duarte’s last work at Globo was a participation in the soap opera ” Além da Ilusão” (2022) and in the second season of “Aruanas”, a Globoplay series. When contacted for the report, Globo did not comment.
