The monologue ‘O Pássaro da Noite’, by José Antônio de Souza, premieres from September 29th to October 8th, at Espaço Cultural Renato Russo. Directed by Cláudio Chinaski and played by Nielson Menão, the dramatic comedy narrates the trajectory of a nameless character, with no past or future, lost in the delirium of an endless night. She reflects on her life, her loves, fears and hopes, moving between mocking humor, irony and the sincerity typical of someone who thinks they have nothing left to lose.
Originally written before the advent of social networks, the text is one of those rare dives into the human soul of a time where interaction between people only took place “face to face”, both for good and for bad. In the new production, the director sought to dialogue with the society we currently have, mediated by social networks and increasingly virtual relationships, to explore the loneliness present in the text and create a show that can dialogue with new generations “The text preserves its contemporaneity by allowing deep connections with the world we live in today”, comments Chinaski.
Dramaturgy presents on stage a creative process that prioritizes the actor’s performance in creating a show that reflects the fundamental archetypes of modern life: loneliness, the search for meaning in life divided between obsessive work and the frantic search for artificial escapes , the lack of depth in emotional relationships and the lack of human contact.
This production brings together, for the first time, actor Nielson Menão, who celebrates 60 years of career, and director Cláudio Chinaski, both artists with renowned careers in Brasília theater.
More about the show
Actor Nielson Menão produced this text in 2000, having had its debut season at Teatro da Caixa, in Brasília. On that occasion, under the direction of Gê Martu, the staging prioritized the text and its poetic structure similar to a flow of thought. Now, Nielson Menão returns to this important text of his career, which earned him the award for best actor at the Teresina monologue festival in 2000.
From an artistic point of view, the production is the result of an entire history of research into theatrical languages undertaken by the actor and the director throughout their careers, a research that spans more than 30 years and covered several important moments in world theater, from the physical theater from the 80s and 90s of the 20th century to the post-dramatic theater of the 21st century.
