The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, complained about the delay by Unisa (Santo Amaro University) in expelling medical students who appear in a video running naked and with their hands on their penises in a sports competition in April this year.

“Why did they only expel them now? Why didn’t they expel them before, in April, when the case occurred?”, asked the minister. He also said the students’ behavior was “unacceptable and disgusting.”

The students’ obscene act took place in April in São Carlos (216 km from the capital of São Paulo), but the video only went viral this weekend. In a note published on its website this Monday (18), Unisa reported having identified and expelled six students.

“Considering the seriousness of the acts, Unisa has already taken the case to the public authorities, promptly contributing to other investigations and appropriate measures”, says the text signed by rector Eloi Francisco Rosa.

The minister was asked about the episode by Folha de S.Paulo reporter Paulo Saldaña during the 7th International Congress of Education Journalism, held at Fecap, in São Paulo.

According to the minister, despite being a private educational institution, the Ministry of Education notified Unisa to demand explanations about the episode.

“We not only repudiate it, we consider it unacceptable. My first determination, since it is the MEC who regulates higher education, was to notify the university to explain the measures adopted”, said Santana.

At the event, Santana also gave information about the bill that will reformulate the new high school. According to him, the text is ready and will be presented to President Lula (PT) and forwarded to Congress.
