John Travolta is rumored to have been cast in Quentin Tarantino’s last film, The Movie Critic.

Industry insider Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic Podcast tweeted, “I hear Tarantino is saving a role in his final film THE MOVIE CRITIC for two of his former leading men. Here’s one of them…” Included in the tweet is a GIF of John Travolta’s Vincent Vega in Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction.

In response to a reply indicating Tarantino may also be eyeing Samuel L. Jackson for a role in The Movie Critic, Sneider said, “He was already kinda out there. I’ve heard of another one…and an actress, too.”

Bruce Willis has additionally been rumored to star in The Movie Critic, while Richard Jewell’s Paul Walter Hauser has reportedly been offered the lead role. No casting has been made official at this time.

What is Tarantino’s last film, The Movie Critic?

Tarantino announced in March 2023 that his tenth film, The Movie Critic, would also be his last. The film was initially rumored to be about film critic Pauline Kael; however, Taranto has since debunked said reports.

While not much is known about the project at this time, The Movie Critic is set in 1977 California. Tarantino told Deadline in May 2023 that the movie “is based on a guy who really lived, but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.”

Tarantino added, “He wrote about mainstream movies and he was the second-string critic. I think he was a very good critic. He was as cynical as hell. His reviews were a cross between early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle might be if he were a film critic.”

Travolta and Tarantino only ever worked together on 1994’s Pulp Fiction; however, Pulp Fiction was the movie that restarted Travolta’s acting career and put him back into A-List territory. Travolta earned his second Oscar nomination for his role in Pulp Fiction following his Best Actor in a Leading Role nomination for 1978’s Saturday Night Fever.
