Immersion in ice is an ancient practice, very common among athletes for muscle recovery and also relieves heat. Based on this, Heal Ice Bath carries out an experience created by entrepreneurs Jade Palma and Davi Decampos, who came together with the purpose of transforming people’s lives through ice immersion. The creation of the duo provides participants with an opportunity to relax, recharge their physical and mental energy and connect with nature. On the 23rd and 24th of September, Heal will hold another edition of this healing, meditation, breathing and resilience work in Brasília.

Businesswoman Jade explains that Heal Ice Bath operates in other cities in Brazil, and mentions places where the event has already taken place, such as Chapada dos Veadeiros and Curitiba. Heal also operates internationally, such as in California. Here at Quadadinho, three editions have already been held. “It happens more or less every two months”, says Jade

The project began to be carried out this year, but Jade says that both creators of Heal already practiced immersion in ice. “We set up Heal in March, but Davi was already practicing in a different way than me.” She is a cyclist and was already a fan of soaking her legs for muscle recovery. The fellow businessman, on the other hand, did the immersion beyond muscle recovery, with a more holistic focus, to control anxiety and mental well-being. “We mixed the holistic part with the mental and physical. We started the immersion with meditation, yoga and breathing training using the Wim Hof method.” She refers to Wim Hof, an athlete known as the Iceman, who created a new form of therapy that involves cryotherapy – an alternative treatment for inflammation and pain in the body – in which the individual will remain in an extremely intense environment. frozen for a certain time. According to Jade, he has a breathing method to control anxiety, fear and depression.

This ties in with Heal’s objective of providing a service in a peaceful and welcoming environment, where the participant can disconnect from external problems and have a transformative experience. After breathing training, ice immersion is performed. “Our classes have an average of between 15 and 30 people.” She explains that after Brasília, the next meeting will be in São Paulo.

Jade’s lifestyle allowed her to team up with Davi professionally, to bring ice immersion to others interested. According to her, people seek out the experience sometimes out of curiosity, other times to treat depression and other illnesses. “But everyone is surprised, and everyone has an individual experience. There are people who come out of the bath crying. There are people who were a little ill and came away from the experience better.” Jade explains that the experience improves the person’s immunity, in addition to producing a lot of endorphins, dopamine and serotonin. “Immersion activates your mind.”

The experience in Brasília usually starts between 8:30 am and 9 am, with meditation and yoga. To participate, when registering, the person must fill out a medical form. Those undergoing cancer treatment, or pregnant women, cannot participate in therapy, for example. “But the experience is perfect for people with autoimmune diseases”, he says. It is recommended that participants fast for at least two hours before immersing themselves in ice.

Conscious lifestyle

In addition to the experience offered by Heal, the two-day meeting also features the presence of some healthy food and drink brands. It also brings together brands from slow fashion, handmade stores, natural cosmetics and other holistic options. Heal aims to encourage a new form of responsible consumption that is more aware of sustainability. For her, it is a trend that is growing more and more, for people to care about sustainability and therapies that help them seek a healthier life and mental and physical balance. “I realized that there are a lot of people who are diligently looking for this.”

In fact, she realizes that many people have tried to have a bathtub at home so they can immerse themselves in ice. Jade emphasizes that it is Heal’s proposal to show the necessary tools so that people can practice immersion at home. She also mentions actions that people tend to do, which are already considered part of ice immersion, such as putting ice on the wound. “For example, one thing that does a lot of good is, when you finish a warm bath, run some cold water, this is very good for waking up the body,” she adds.

Curiosity:

For Heal ice immersion, the water temperature is between 3 degrees and 10 degrees. And it doesn’t necessarily need to be below 3.

There is no scientific fact or argument that going above 3 minutes gains more benefits. “Three minutes is great,” says Jade.
