The Social Communication Secretariat (Secom) of Palácio do Planalto released a note this Monday, 18th, about the amount spent on the corporate card by the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. According to the organization, most of the approximately R$8 million spent this year is related to the president’s trips abroad.

These trips, states the note, “directly resulted in R$111.5 billion in new investments for the country in the first six months of the year.” The demonstration came after a report published by the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo.

“Brazil had abandoned its international protagonism and to reverse this situation, President Lula has been carrying out an intense schedule of international travel”, states the text released by the government.
