SÃO PAULO, SP (UOL/FOLHAPRESS)

Senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), CPI rapporteur for the January 8 coup attacks, called for the breaking of banking, telephone and telematic secrecy of Tércio Arnaud Tomaz, former presidential advisor to Jair Bolsonaro who was a member of the ‘cabinet of the hatred’.

For telephone and telematic secrecy, the request is for breaking since 2022. In the case of banking and tax information, the request wants access to data since 2020.

The investigations conducted by this Commission brought elements of Tercio Arnaud’s connection with a person under investigation by this CPMI and, therefore, it is essential for further investigations to clarify the role of the individual mentioned in carrying out undemocratic acts that occurred during the period under investigation. Tércio is from Campina Grande, in Paraíba. It was Carlos Bolsonaro who discovered him between 2013 and 2014. He became close to the Bolsonaro clan when he created the “Bolsonaro Opressor” page on Facebook. He used it to attack, through memes, the opponents of the then federal deputy, in addition to praising Bolsonaro. He also used the page to attack councilor Marielle Franco.

With Bolsonaro’s victory in the 2018 election, he was also one of the first to be appointed as special advisor to the Presidency with a salary of R$13,600. The now presidential advisor had no previous experience in politics. He has a degree in Biomedicine and worked as a receptionist in a hotel.

After he was discovered by “zero two”, he was called to be an advisor to the cabinets from 2017 onwards.

Another page he managed was “Bolsonaro Opressor 2.0²”. In 2016, he posted an image of congresswoman Maria do Rosário lying as if she had been shot and of former congressman Jean Wyllys, as well as former presidents Lula and Dilma tied up in straitjackets. Then he wrote: “If Bolsonaro is president…”.

The pages were deactivated by Facebook much later — “Bolsonaro Opressor 2.0” had more than 1 million followers. In 2020, Facebook and Instagram released a report produced by DRFLab that pointed out Tércio’s involvement in other hate pages. In addition to the “Bolsonaro Opressor 2.0” page, it was identified that the @bolsonaronewsss account on Instagram was managed by Tercio. She had 492 thousand followers and more than 11 thousand publications. It was also removed.

The page was anonymous, but registration information allowed identification. In the report, researchers pointed out that the account publishing “content was misleading in many cases, employing a mix of half-truths to reach false conclusions.” In 2020, the page posted, for example, attacks on former Justice Minister Sergio Moro (União Brasil), after his departure from the government.
