The Federal District estimates that, as of August, 67% of vehicles in the local fleet do not have paid annual licensing, according to the Department of Traffic (Detran-DF). This number corresponds to more than one million cars in circulation across the capital.
The issuance of the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate via digital means (CRLV-e) is linked to the payment of the tax, as well as other debts such as IPVA and fines, if any.
Drivers of vehicles with end plates 1 and 2 have until September 30 to pay the annual licensing renewal fee. From October 1st, these cars must have the 2023 CRLV-e to travel on the streets.
Other vehicles must comply with the requirement after the deadline established according to the plate. The levy changes from the 1st day of each month after the expiration of the due date:
– Cars with license plate numbers 3, 4 and 5 have until October 31st to make payment;
– Cars with license plate numbers 6, 7 and 8 have until November 30th;
– Cars with license plates 9 and 0 have until December 31st to regularize.
Drivers who are caught by inspections driving without a license may be penalized with seven points on their National Driving License (CNH), seizure of the vehicle and a fine of R$293.47. The infraction is considered very serious.
“We ask that the population does not leave payment until the last minute, so as not to confuse deadlines. It is important that drivers have legal vehicles to circulate in the city”, says the director of Policing and Traffic Inspection at Detran, Clever de Farias Silva.
How to regularize the situation
To obtain the document, the owner must pay the licensing fee and other pending issues, if any. After paying off the debts, the CRLV-e is issued through the Detran-DF service portal or through the Detran Digital application. The document can also be obtained from the federal government’s Digital Traffic Card (CDT) application.
Since 2021, the licensing certificate is only issued in digital format. The CRLV-e can be presented through official applications, or in the printed version on plain white A4 paper.
