The Escola Superior de Ciências da Saúde (ESCS) will participate in the 20th Scientific Initiation Congress of the Federal District, which will take place at the Athos Bulcão Community Center, at the University of Brasília (UnB), between the 26th and 29th. eight institutions that will be present at the meeting.
Around 2,500 students are registered for the Congress. Of this total, 135 are students from ESCS nursing and medicine courses, who will present 79 projects during the second day of the event, dedicated to the theme “Health and Life”.
The evaluation of the work will be carried out by professors with doctorates, both from the school and from other participating institutions, who are registered as evaluators. After registering, they will have access to the QRCode that contains a list of all registered projects and a summary of each of them. Then, the evaluator chooses the project of their choice and goes to the banner that will be evaluated.
The projects with the best scores may be nominated for an award, or just for an honorable mention. Nominees for the award will be forwarded to guest evaluators from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), who, externally to the event, will decide which works will be included in the scholarship modalities.
For three years, ESCS has participated in the meeting, which is considered a unique scientific exhibition, bringing together numerous researchers, with an exhibition of posters divided by themes and evaluation by professors who are experts in the subjects. It is also an opportunity to share knowledge and strengthen research, in addition to being a requirement for certification in the Scientific Initiation Program (PIC) offered by the School.
“The program is the undergraduate student’s gateway into the world of science through research. It is an instrument for stimulating and training future researchers”, says the PIC coordinator, Cláudia Vicari Bolognani.
This year, the first day of the event will be reserved only for the opening ceremony in the afternoon. The following three days will be distributed across thematic areas, with poster presentations on “Arts and Humanities”, “Health and Life” and “Exact Sciences and Engineering”.
Regarding student participation, Cláudia assesses that they “develop the ability to present at conferences and the challenge of being questioned by evaluators. This way they will have the opportunity to show resourcefulness and mastery of their research knowledge.”
Awards’ ceremony
The ceremony is scheduled for October 26th, in a location yet to be defined, to accommodate the largest number of people. The time between the Congress and the award will be necessary for all projects to be evaluated fairly and in accordance with the importance of the research.
The coordinator highlights the participation of ESCS professors, who will evaluate the work and contribute to the nomination for awards, to be defined. “Mainly the work of researchers whose orientation is based on the critical-reflective process, stimulated by direct confrontation with research problems, contributing to ESCS students becoming well-qualified professionals”, she emphasizes.
In addition to seeking the award, ESCS students will also dedicate themselves to exchanging multidisciplinary and interinstitutional knowledge. “During the congress, they will have the opportunity to make new friends and find out what research is being developed by their peers from other courses and other institutions”, concludes Cláudia.
