For the idol of the Brazilian National Team, who in the 80s watched television in Rio de Janeiro, the player who made the Phenomenon’s eyes shine was attacking midfielder Zico, the most important playmaker in Flamengo’s history and who was present at the World Cups. 1978, 1982 and 1986.
“My biggest idol in football has always been and will always be Zico. He was the guy who inspired me a lot in my childhood and to this day inspires me as a manager and as a person. I have always used Zico as a great reference in life, not only on the field but also off, both for his values and for his behavior, being for me my great inspiration to become a professional athlete”, said Ronaldo to Betfair about the Quintino’s Chicken.
Remembering more about his childhood in Rio de Janeiro, when he lived in Bento Ribeiro, a suburb of Rio de Janeiro, Ronaldo remembered what his childhood dream was. “I had a childhood dream of being a soldier or a football player. As the years went by, I only thought about becoming a player. I never had another thought about another sector. I believe I made the right choice (laughs).” With this in mind, in August, Betfair launched the Ronaldoverso campaign, about what would have happened if the star had bet and followed other paths for his career.
Chosen as the best player in the world in 1996, 1997 and 2002, R9 spoke about the moment when football became a priority in his career. “The world of football and the football industry are very big, and today I see myself exploring another area of this industry. Even so, it was the best choice (working in football), it’s what I’ve done my whole life, it’s what I understand, it’s what moves me, so football has always been my priority, since I was ten years old. I never had another dream that I wanted to do”, said the Betfair ambassador.
