The last week of winter in the Federal District is expected to remain hot and dry. With the arrival of spring next Saturday (23), temperatures are expected to easily exceed 30°C in the coming days, with a high possibility of a new heat record, above the 34°C recorded last Wednesday ( 13). Yesterday the thermometers registered 33.7°C in the capital, values that should be repeated throughout this week.
According to meteorologist Olívio Bahia, from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), spring marks the second equinox of the year, which is the greatest alignment of the sun with the equator. “With this descent of the sun, it is a period with a lot of solar radiation, because there are usually few clouds, there is not as much water vapor in the atmosphere to help form clouds, so the sky is open. This helps keep temperatures up,” he said.
The lack of clouds and water in the atmosphere also means days with lower relative humidity. The expectation, according to meteorology, is that variations will occur between 30% and 20%, making it important, therefore, to ingest as much water and as little exposure to the sun as possible during the hottest hours of the day, without major efforts with physical activities. The use of sunscreen is also recommended.
In this last season, Brasilia natives were unable to enjoy the winter like in previous years. According to Olívio, there was a low incidence of cold fronts arriving in the capital this winter, which gave the feeling of a longer period of heat. “The mornings and evenings were cooler, but during the day the heat prevailed”, analyzed the meteorologist. The causes for the low incidence of cold fronts in the DF are still unclear to experts.
The winds should help alleviate the thermal sensation over the next few days, but it does not mean that the weather will be mild. The lack of clouds, on the other hand, should remain until at least the second week of October, if no other meteorological phenomenon occurs.
Fires remain a serious risk to human, plant and animal health in the DF. With the hotter and drier climate, in addition to the action of the wind, the flames can spread more easily. “But it’s worth remembering that the fire doesn’t start out of nowhere. There is always a human action behind it. Therefore, it is necessary to reinforce to avoid the burning of land, garbage and the disposal of cigarette butts in the bush”, concluded the Inmet specialist.
