My people, how can you not remember this entertainment classic from the 2000s? Wow, how I loved this program and was euphoric with this great return. For those who don’t remember or weren’t born at the time, Beija Sapo was presented by Daniella Cicarelli and had the following format: a girl or a boy was the princess or prince of the day. Three suitors were the “frogs”, people willing to show their characteristics and resourcefulness to win over the protagonists, through questions and answers, tests and declarations of love.

The program followed a heteronormative line, with men trying to win over women and vice versa, with no mention of issues such as bisexuality, gender identities or open relationships, for example. There were few episodes with homosexual participants.

The new format of the program was completely redesigned, with a new presenter, new setting and new relationship and sexuality behaviors among the participants. Now, the “frogs” and “princes/princesses” are largely members of generation Z and demonstrate that they have more open, fluid and aware orientations regarding their sexualities, identities and relationship formats. In one episode, for example, the main participant is a trans woman, whose heart is fought for by three cis men. Among them, there are those who kiss boys and girls, while others warn that they are not monogamous and are in an open relationship.

The culture of dating apps is very present in the new version of the program. The new Beija Sapo is sponsored by one of the biggest apps of its kind in the world, Tinder, and one of the tests is focused on analyzing the profiles of frogs on this platform. Something like this didn’t even exist in the original Beija Sapo, when the main social network in Brazil was Orkut, accessed only by computers (not even smartphones were present in everyday life).

The sex continues hot throughout the program. With each block, the princess/prince eliminates one of the frogs from the dispute, and the eliminated one never ends up losing. The person goes to an area of the studio known as Brejódromo where they can have a new chance with someone from the audience. Often, the eliminated party gains a certain advantage: many of the kisses that occur in this area are triple, amid much applause and screams from the public, in addition to the look of surprise and fright from presenter Valentina Bandeira, who has fun with the participants and encourages making out. and the romance of the crowd.
