The 1-0 victory over leader Botafogo, last Saturday, at Arena MRV, supported Luiz Felipe Scolari’s work at Atlético-MG. The coach took advantage of the good moment to apologize for the poor start to his work, in which he ended up being eliminated in the Copa Libertadores. He set a place in the continental competition as his goal in this final stretch of the season.

“Our ideal is to be among the classifieds in the Libertadores, it is the project of the moment. We are moving towards that. Unfortunately, (I apologize) to the Atlético fans, in those nine games we were unable to provide a better condition for Atlético”, regretted the coach, for the lack of victories.

“Now we have to chase it. It took time, it takes longer than normal. If we had done pre-season, who knows, maybe it would be a little different. It takes a little longer. In this case, it takes a little longer, in the Brazilian Nationals, nine rounds to score three, four, five points is horrible. Fortunately the management understood that the work was being done in a reasonable to good way and we are managing to rebalance the way Atlético currently plays”, said Felipão.

The coach had a bad sequence of nine games (five defeats and four draws) before becoming disenchanted in charge of Atlético-MG in the match against São Paulo, 2-0, at Morumbi. Despite experiencing its great moment this season, the Minas Gerais club is still ninth in the Brasileirão, with 34 points. In sixth, Fluminense has 38.

“We’ve been winning or doing a good job in the last five or six games, but we’ve advanced a little bit, two little points, it’s difficult. It’s the same work as whoever is at the bottom wins, but whoever is at the front wins too. It’s a hell,” he said.

Atlético-MG will only return to the field next Saturday, at 9pm, when they will face Cuiabá, at Arena MRV, in the 24th round of the Brasileirão.
