SÃO PAULO, SP (FOLHAPRESS)

Two cargo ships that will be supplied with grains from Ukraine docked at a port in the country this Sunday morning (17), for the first time since Russia unilaterally broke the agreement in July, which, under the supervision of the UN and the Turkey, ensured the safe transport of Ukrainian grain across the Black Sea.

The vessels were positioned in the port of Tchornomorsk and should be supplied with around 22 thousand tons of wheat destined for countries in Africa and Asia, said the Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure, Oleksandr Kubrakov, on X (formerly Twitter).

The ships have the flag of the Palau oceanic archipelago, and the crew is made up of citizens from Turkey, Egypt, Azerbaijan and Ukraine itself. It was not announced when the freighters would leave for their final destinations – nor whether they would do so safely.

In yet another attack that was interpreted as signaling the risks to Ukrainian exports, Russia launched cruise missiles in the port region of Odessa, north of Tchormomorsk. The Ukrainian Air Force said it shot down most of the missiles, but that some hit civilian agricultural grain storage facilities, damaging them. There are no reports of injuries.

Previously, Moscow had already claimed to have carried out, also this Sunday, a missile attack against a factory in the city of Kharkiv, in the northeast of the neighboring country. The site would be used for repairs of Ukrainian armored vehicles, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.

At the same time, Kiev would have carried out attacks against Russian territory. Moscow claims to have thwarted an attack on the occupied Crimean peninsula and another on Moscow. In the capital, a drone was reportedly destroyed in the Istra district and another in Ramenski, according to City Hall.

At least 30 flights were delayed and another six canceled at the city’s main airports, according to official agencies. In southwestern Russia, a drone reportedly damaged an oil depot, starting a fire in a fuel tank. No injuries were reported, and Kiev did not comment on the incidents.

In July, when it broke off the so-called Black Sea Grain Initiative, the Putin government stated that it would consider any ship that entered a Ukrainian port as potentially carrying military cargo, signaling a possible attack.

With the aim of resuming the agreement, albeit in other formats, talks were held between Putin and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, although no new seam was formally established.

This Sunday’s movements take place on the eve of President Volodimir Zelenski’s trip to New York, for the UN General Assembly. The Ukrainian is one of the most anticipated figures this year.

The possibility of Zelenski having a meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is open – according to Brasília, there is an informal bilateral request that has not yet been confirmed.

In addition to speaking from the General Assembly pulpit shortly after Lula and the American Joe Biden, he will also speak, on Wednesday, at a meeting of the Security Council, the highest body of the UN, a meeting that should also include the chancellor Russian, Sergei Lavrov.

Meanwhile, there is no prospect of an easing of the war.
In an interview published by the German newspaper Berliner Morgenpost this Sunday, the secretary general of NATO (Western military alliance), Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg, stated that everyone must prepare for “a long War in Ukraine”.
“We must recognize that if President Zelensky and the Ukrainians stop fighting, the country will cease to exist,” he said.

“If President Putin and Russia stop using weapons, we will have peace. The easiest way to end this war is for Putin to withdraw his troops.”
