Residents of Samambaia are having the opportunity to exchange conventional light bulbs for LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulbs with the aim of reducing waste and promoting the efficient and rational use of electrical energy.

The action of the Energy with Citizenship project, promoted by the capital’s energy distribution concessionaire and regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), takes place until September 30th throughout the region, through the distributor’s mobile units. The expectation is to change approximately 2,500 light bulbs and guide the population on how to rationally use electrical equipment.

In the action, residents will be able to exchange up to five incandescent or fluorescent lamps for LED lamps, which are 40% more economical. To receive the new light bulb kit, residential or rural-residential residents must live in the community or be registered with the Social Electricity Tariff (TSEE).

Participants also cannot have debts with the concessionaire and it is necessary to bring the energy bill along with the holder’s identification documentation and up to five used incandescent or fluorescent lamps (with a power equal to or greater than 15W).

The administrator of Samambaia, Marcos Leite, highlights the importance of the action for residents of the region. “In addition to LED light having a different quality, it will hurt less on the population’s pockets – especially the budgets of people with low income. Not to mention its importance for our environment”, he points out.

According to Marcos Leite, around 80 thousand LED lamps have already been installed in Samambaia’s public lighting, replacing conventional ones on the streets. The goal of the Government of the Federal District (GDF) is to have 100% of the city illuminated by LED lamps soon.

“I remember the time we started changing the lights. The residents were very happy. In addition to bringing greater security to the population”, said Leite. He emphasizes that changing the lighting is a big step forward and that he intends to make the change reach the rural areas of Samambaia.
