At the recent edition of the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), Barranquilla singer Shakira shone with a presentation that summarized her greatest hits throughout her musical career. The performance included emblematic songs such as “Loba”, “Hips do n’t lie” and “Ojos Así”, in addition to other hits that covered all the years of her artistic career.

In addition to her dazzling performance, Shakira surprised the audience by demonstrating her flexibility when dancing. At the end of her performance, she surfed into the crowd that cheered her show.

However, the highlight of the night for Shakira was her winning the MTV VMA Michael Jackson Vanguard Award. This prestigious award is given to artists who have left an indelible mark on the music industry throughout their careers. Shakira became the first South American to receive this honor, a testament to her impact and contribution to the world of music.

Despite the acclaim and recognition from the industry, not everyone was impressed by the Colombian superstar’s performance. One of the most notable critics was Spanish presenter Alessandro Lequio, who made unfavorable comments about Shakira’s performance at the awards.

Lequio’s criticism focused on Shakira’s choice to perform her song in collaboration with music producer Bizarrap. This song is about Shakira’s relationship with her ex-husband, soccer player Gerard Piqué. This song choice was considered by some to be inappropriate or uncomfortable, as it exposes personal details of the singer’s life.

Alessandro Lequio did not spare his criticism and expressed his disagreement with the choice of Shakira, arguing that it was not appropriate to bring personal matters to an event as big as the MTV VMAs.

“Sometimes she behaves like a fifth-rate singer who seeks scandal to try to sell four albums,” was one of his comments that generated controversy on social networks.

“She is an international star who triumphs on the most prestigious stages and receives the most important awards and she does not need to seek prominence at all seeking revenge from Piqué,” the journalist continued.

“There is no need at all to seek prominence by seeking revenge from Piqué. We are not going to take away the pain that he felt, because we have all gone through that pain at some point in our lives,” Lequio continued.

It should be noted that this is not the first time that the Spaniard criticizes the Colombian singer. Last year, Lequio posted on his Instagram that Shakira had to agree with her decisions.

“What Shakira has to do is come to an agreement, because now she says that she had to give up her career and stay in Barcelona, and when the Treasury asked her about her residence, she said that she was practically away from Barcelona all year for work reasons. , and that is why it was not taxed in Spain. Let her clarify herself,” the presenter had declared at the time.
