Multiple deaths were reported after a shooting on Saturday afternoon at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Fla., officials said.
The office of the city’s mayor, Donna Deegan, confirmed in a statement that there were “multiple fatalities, including the shooter” but provided no further details.
As news of the shooting filtered through the community, people formed prayer circles outside the scene of the shooting, which was cordoned off by the police.
The television station Action News Jax reported earlier that there had been a standoff at a Dollar General store with a barricaded gunman.
A news conference was scheduled by officials on Saturday afternoon.
