According to the publication, five bombs are located near the Al-Shati refugee camp, in the north of the enclave. With their help, it is possible to flood Hamas tunnels with water from the Mediterranean Sea in just a few weeks. However, sources point out, the Israeli authorities have not yet agreed on this plan, but they have not abandoned it either.

The publication notes that the speed of the bombs will allow Hamas to evacuate the hostages to the surface if they still remain there, but discussions about using the system are still ongoing. Israel has no data on how extensive the network of underground utilities is, what they contain, or how seawater might affect soil and groundwater in Gaza.

The newspaper’s sources said a similar scenario was discussed between representatives of the United States and Israel. If it has to be resorted to, the White House will find itself in a difficult position and risks condemnation from the world community. At the same time, the Wall Street Journal interlocutors added that this option is one of the most effective ways to eliminate tunnels, the length of which can reach almost 500 kilometers.

The day before, the head of Israel’s General Security Service, Ronen Bar, announced his intention to eliminate all leaders of the Palestinian Hamas movement, wherever they are. According to him, special operations will be carried out not only in the Gaza Strip, but also in the West Bank, Lebanon, Turkey, Qatar and other regions.

The White House called these plans “a good practice” and added that they “would have a detrimental effect on Hamas’ capabilities.”
